Tingly pork and braised greens

I love Chinese meals of rice, greens and meat. This months meatbox had a lovely slab of pork belly in it so I got to scratch my itch and try using the Unknown Tingly Green Sauce I last had it in Tingly Chinese Chicken

Tingly Chinese Chicken

My friend knows I’m always interested in unusual food, so when you messaged me to see if I wanted a jar of “this tingy chilli oil that my wife loves and you can’t get in the UK” I jumped.

Beef and aubergine hotpot with quince

I’m trying to reduce our food waste by not letting anything spoil, so tonight’s dinner was the reduce of googling “aubergine and beef”, because we had some aubergine needed using up our The Christmas Farm meatbox contained are beef cut for stirfry.

Mongolian beef

I saw this Mongolian Beef recipe this morning and it ticked all the boxes, sweat, sharp, crispy fried bits and such lovely colours, so it went on my mental list to make.

Sweet and sour pork (lockdown edition)

I’ve blogged about sweet and sour porksweet and sour pork before, but this recipe was a variant to use up some bits and pieces whilst on lockdown.

Fakeaway duck pancakes, lemon chicken and salt&chilli prawns

I love Chinese food, especially dim sum and Sichuan hot pot, but when it comes to takeaway, naff English style dishes are my weakness. There’s something about crispy fried things in a slightly gelatinous sauce that really hits the spot.

Crispy twice cooked pork

One of the things that takeaways excel at (and that I assume is dreadfully bad for you) are those dishes where chunks of meat are crisp but coated in a spicy sweet unctuous sauce.

Baked lemon chicken

I love takeaway Chinese lemon chicken so much. Even when it’s bad, it’s good. I’ve already blogged a fakeaway version already using chicken being quickly deep fried, but this version is very easy on the weight watchers points, and that’s pretty important to me right now.

Weightwatchers friendly Sweet and Sour Prawns

As I started writing this up I realised I’d already written up sweet and sour pork which is pretty much identical. This one however is much lower in fat and thus far less WeightWatchers points (which I’m counting at the moment.

Sweet and sour pork

When I first got interested in cooking in the early 90s I was living in Cumbria, there was not a lot of cultural diversity in local food.

Crispy sticky deep fried beef

Years ago I had crispy ginger beef in a restarunt in Vancouver. I’ve never found anything quite as good, but I’ve an idea how to reproduce the beef now.

Cheating Chinese lemon Chicken

A while ago I made a cheating version of one of my favourite Chinese takeaway dishes, orange chicken. Last week I made a lemon version and it was even better!
